Sergio Sosa and the Heartland Workers Center to receive the Defender of the Bill of Rights Award from ACLU Nebraska
Omaha, NE – The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Nebraska will recognize the Heartland Workers Center and its Executive Director, Sergio Sosa, as the 2012 Defender of the Bill of Rights, at their annual dinner. This award is given to individuals and groups who have worked independently of ACLU Nebraska to advance civil liberties and the Bill of Rights.
The dinner and celebration, Journeys for Justice, will be held Saturday, March 10, beginning at 6PM at the Tip Top Ballroom in Downtown Omaha.
The event’s speaker will be Michelle Alexander, former ACLU attorney and now the author of the best-selling book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness.
Journeys for Justice is an extension of a forum on criminal justice and mass incarceration. The forum, Nebraska: Safe Communities – Fair Sentences, will also feature Ms. Alexander as the keynote speaker, to be followed by various workshops.
