The Heartland Workers Received Social Action Award
On Saturday April 5, the Heartland Workers Center (HWC) received the 2014 Social Action Award by the Midwest Sociological Society (MSS). The award is given to two organizations each year that are doing exceptional work to improve social justice in the Midwest. Organizations from nine states applied, and The HWC is honored to receive it. The MSS is an organization of academic and applied sociologists that was founded in 1936. They provide opportunities for leadership and committee work, while supporting minority fellowship, grant, award programs and research by MSS members. In addition, they publish the Sociological Quarterly and hold a yearly conference.
