This past weekend, the Health & Safety Training Institute (HTSI) of the HWC held an OSHA-authorized training in Construction. It was held in a period of two days- Friday from 9 a.m to 4:30 p.m and Saturday from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Four employees, whom are rebar installers at a local Rebar Installation company attended and successfully completed the the two day training. Penélope Leon, one of the bilingual instructors for HSTI, stated " This type of training is crucial because although these employees are experts, it helps them to remain conscious at all times of all the dangers that are surrounding them." All of the trainings provided by HSTI deliver hands-on exercises, real life scenarios and small group discussions proven to engage participants' minds and support efficient learning.

The HSTI provides trainings in both English and Spanish. Jorge Tula, a trainee at the previous training said, "Compared to other trainings, I liked this one the most because of the dynamics used, the hands on training and it was held in Spanish. I was engaged throughout the entire course."

Trainings are offered in several different industries including construction, cleaning and general industry. To date, the institute has trained over 400 workers!

Health and safety is crucial not only at our worksite but also on a daily basis to improve our quality of life.
